Following pressure from the footballer Marcus Rashford, the government has previously agreed to extend the scheme over the summer holidays. Now, the Manchester United star wants it to follow the devolved administrations in extending it further. A petition he set up has been signed by more than 300,000 people. to hungry children in the school holidays.

Cleethorpes residents will be interested to know that last night in Parliament your MP,Martin Vickers, followed the party whip and voted against giving free meals.

The government in England has rejected calls to extend a voucher scheme for children to receive free school meals over the half-term and winter holidays.

MP for Grimsby, Lia Nicci did not vote
