Delivering Results All Year Round - Vote Liberal Democrat on May 7th
We currently have just three Liberal Democrat councillors out of 42 on North East Lincolnshire Council, but we consistently punch well above our weight. These are just some of the results Liberal Democrats are delivering across the borough.
We introduced a fully budgeted Liberal Democrat plan focused on tackling litter and improving the cleanliness of our streets. This was not just a proposal, it was delivered, with consistent oversight through a working group chaired by the Liberal Democrat Group Leader. It created new local jobs within the cleaning service and, within six months, led to a 30% reduction in litter complaints while removing over 55 tonnes of waste from residential streets. The work included targeted deep cleans alongside education programmes in schools to help prevent littering and protect the local environment. As a result of its success, this approach has now been adopted as a permanent service.
This reflects our wider approach. We do not just put forward ideas; we deliver clear, measurable results.
We also secured a £238,000 plan to provide early intervention for residents struggling with council tax. This has recently been approved and will introduce a system to identify those beginning to fall into difficulty and offer support before problems escalate. It includes free debt advice, access to hardship funding, and benefit checks, ensuring people receive help early rather than facing enforcement or spiralling debt.
On community safety, we pushed for stronger recognition of women’s safety in public spaces. Following survey evidence showing that women and girls feel significantly less safe than men in the town centre, we ensured that major developments, including the transport hub, explicitly set out how women’s safety is considered in their design and recorded within public documents. This allows developments to be properly scrutinised and held to account, ensuring safety measures are built in from the outset rather than introduced after problems arise, helping to improve both safety and confidence for women and girls in the town centre.
We have also taken action on housing standards. Through sustained Liberal Democrat campaigning, the selective licensing regulation has now been introduced as a trial in East Marsh, targeting poor housing conditions and irresponsible landlords. This sets the foundation for expansion into other areas where it is needed, helping to raise standards across the borough.
In addition, we challenged inequality in enforcement. At one stage, Traffic Regulation Orders, used to tackle issues such as pavement and dangerous parking, were limited to just 4 out of 15 wards. We exposed this imbalance and successfully changed council policy by pushing for a borough-wide approach, meaning all wards can now be treated equally. The next step is ensuring consistent enforcement so residents see the full benefit.
We have also worked to hold external agencies to account. For example, we brought forward action to improve oversight of repeated water leaks and to ensure Anglian Water is properly challenged where issues persist, protecting both infrastructure and public confidence.
Alongside this, we have pushed for practical improvements to support local economies, including securing free parking in Cleethorpes town centre. While limited, it is a step in the right direction to support local businesses.
Across all of this, the focus has been the same: listening to residents, identifying what is not working, and delivering clear plans to put it right.
That is how Liberal Democrat councillors are making a difference, not just in one ward, but across North East Lincolnshire.

With more Liberal Democrat councillors, we can do even mor - delivering reliable services, safer communities, and a council that works for residents.
On May 7th, a vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for results.
