Fix the Pipes. Stop the Road Works.
Repeated burst pipes, flooding, reduced water pressure and the same roads being dug up again and again have gone on for far too long. Local people are fed up with short-term fixes that don’t solve the problem.
That’s why Liberal Democrats brought a motion to Full Council demanding the council step up and hold Anglian Water to account. Despite attempts by several Labour councillors to water it down and lower expectations, claiming it was “too much work”, the motion was passed unanimously.
As a result of this motion:
- Repeated burst pipes and Section 81 notices will be formally scrutinised
- Repeat locations and underlying infrastructure failures will be examined
- Anglian Water will be called in and challenged on repairs, pressure reduction and pipe replacement
- The impact on roads, businesses, public transport and accessibility will be properly assessed
- Pressure is being escalated to Ofwat and Government for stronger action and investment from Anglian Water
- The council will be required to report back, not let this quietly drop
Being a councillor means doing the hard work, especially when others say it’s “too much”. It means refusing to accept endless patch repairs, refusing to normalise failure, and standing up for residents who deserve infrastructure that actually works.
Residents deserve action.
This is us delivering it!
