Grimsby and Cleethorpes Liberal democrats have selected Les Bonner to be their candidate for the Heneage by-election, which takes place on July 1st.

Les has a long-standing connection with the ward, having lived in the area for much of his life, attended Welholme and Wintringham schools and has family and friends living in the ward.

Les has a passion for helping people and working in the community and a long-standing record as a community volunteer, having joined the Management Committee of Grimsby Harriers at 16 years old. and continued in different voluntary roles to the present day.

Les has previously been a Local Councillor and has also been employed as a community worker in the Heneage Ward for eight years, leaving to take up fresh challenges in June 2020.

Les has continued to volunteer, carrying out weekly charity food collections from local supermarkets and amongst other things, started projects to supply food and hot meals to people who needed it during lockdown, meals for schoolchildren in the school holidays and providing over 100 tablets and computers to disadvantaged schoolchildren who needed one to help with their home learning.

Les said:

"The people of the Heneage Ward have been let down for years by their Councillors, who have failed to improve the Ward and It is time things changed.

"I believe in fair treatment for everyone and have a passion for helping people. I also have the knowledge and experience to be effective and will work with the Lib Dem Councillors in the neighbouring East Marsh Ward to change things and make the Heneage Ward a better place for people to live or visit."

"I promise that if elected, unlike many existing Councillors, being a Ward Councillor will be my only paid job. I also promise that if you contact me, I will always reply and help if I can."

Wehave a real chance of succeeding in this election. If you could spare a bit of time to help us with our campaigning please let us know by emailing leslie.bonner@ntlworld.com or ringing 07964 110 420
