GRIMSBY AND CLEETHORPES LIB DEMS FIGHT TO SAVE COMPASS FM
Grimsby and Cleethorpes Lib Dems have launched a campaign to save Compass FM after it was announced that the popular commercial station is set to be axed.
Compass FM's owners Bauer Radio has decided that it will be one of 47 local radio stations that will be replaced by a national radio station, called Greatest Hits Radio, from September.
Lib Dem Council group leader Ian Barfield said: "Compass FM is a popular local radio station that provides local news and information for many North East Lincs residents. It will be a real loss to our area. We think there is a strong case for OfCom to look at this. A huge swathe of local radio across the country will be lost because of this decision. We would also like Oliver Dowden, the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, to intervene."
East Marsh Lib Dem Councillor Kay Rudd added: "We've decided to launch a campaign to save the Compass FM. We want to show the stations owners and OfCom the strength of local people's feelings about this issue.
We have launched a petition that local people can sign at https://grimsby-cleethorpeslibdems.org.uk/CompassFM."
