Lib Dems Secure Public Review After Allotment Water Supply Removed

Hundreds of allotment holders at Carr Lane Allotments were left without their mains water supply after the Council switched it off without properly consulting tenants.

Allotment holders were instead told to rely primarily on rainwater harvesting, leaving many concerned about how they could maintain their plots during prolonged periods of dry weather.

When the Council decided the issue would not be heard in public, Liberal Democrat councillors challenged that decision and won. 

The Council must now publicly examine the issue on 15th September, including why the water supply was removed, the impact on allotment holders and what improvements can be made.

The review will give allotment holders an opportunity to see the Council publicly held to account over the decisions affecting their plots and the future of the service.
