Protect Weelsby Woods from 1,500 Homes

Plans could see around 1,500 homes built on land next to Weelsby Woods. Help us protect the Woods and its surrounding landscape.

We need new homes, but they need to be built in the right places. A development of this scale could fundamentally change the setting of Weelsby Woods and increase pressure from traffic, drainage, artificial lighting, noise and recreational use.

Weelsby Woods has been enjoyed by generations of local people. In 1948, Fred Parkes gifted 130 acres of the wooded Weelsby Old Hall Estate to the people of Grimsby, with the understanding that the Woods should be preserved as open space.

We believe that legacy — and the wider setting of the Woods — deserves protecting.

Lib Dem campaigner Brian Barrett is calling on North East Lincolnshire Council to remove the land between Weelsby Woods and Pennells Garden Centre from the proposed housing allocations in the new Local Plan, and identify more suitable locations for future housing.

If this land remains allocated in the new Local Plan, it will give a future planning application strong support in principle. Taking it out would help protect the setting of Weelsby Woods and direct housing towards more suitable locations.

Protect Weelsby Woods

I the undersigned call on North East Lincolnshire Council to remove the proposed housing allocation on land between Weelsby Woods and Pennells Garden Centre from the new Local Plan, and identify more suitable locations for future housing.
