Historic East Marsh whale jawbones return to public view
A piece of East Marsh history has been brought back into public view following a fantastic community-led project.
The historic whale jawbones now have a new home in the Oasis Garden at Your Place Grimsby, where they can be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come.
East Marsh Liberal Democrat councillors were pleased to support the project through ward funding, helping preserve an important piece of the area's heritage and make it publicly accessible once again.
More than 150 people attended the grand unveiling, demonstrating just how much interest and pride there remains in East Marsh's history.
Copies of original booklets about the whale dating from 1892 have also been carefully recreated, helping ensure the story behind the jawbones isn't lost.
We've lost too much of our local history over the years, so we're delighted that ward funding could help support a community project that preserves something important for future generations. Seeing so many people come together for the unveiling showed just how much our local heritage still matters.”
